Assistant Professor
The Maldives National University
Aminath Riyaz is an Assistant Professor at the Maldives National University (MNU) and was the first Chief Librarian of the institution. She is one of the few Maldivians who have completed a university qualification in library and information sciences (LIS) and the first person to have achieved a Doctor of Philosophy in LIS. In 2006, she led the implementation of the first library automation project in the Maldives using an internationally compatible integrated library management system at the Maldives College of Higher Education. She coordinated the Maldives digital library project, launched in 2012, which included a number of digital collections as well as an online catalogue for 21 libraries across the Maldives that were searchable synchronously on one platform. Aminath also worked in various library positions at Curtin University and Edith Cowan University, Australia. She hopes her students in the first degree program in library & information management, which she developed and launched in 2021, will become change makers by incorporating ICTs in their service provision to make libraries relevant to the internet generation.
